Local people are being thanked for supporting last week’s (June 14) National Dementia Cupcake Day event which was held at Wickham Market Medical Centre and its branch surgery at Rendlesham.
A total of £820.00 was raised for the Alzheimer’s Society from the sale of delicious cupcakes which were baked by members of the centre’s staff and Patient Participation Group, and raffle prizes which were donated by generous local businesses.
Those who attended were able to learn about the help and support that is available locally for those affected by the condition. Organisations in attendance included Dementia Together Suffolk, Suffolk Family Carers, Suffolk Libraries Mental Health & Wellbeing Team, Hour Community Charity Framlingham and Wickham Market Good Neighbours Scheme. Healthwatch Suffolk were also in attendance.
The money raised will be used for research into this condition which affects around 13,000 people in Suffolk.
Jane Wallace, Practice Manager, Wickham Market Medical Centre, said: “It was pleasing that so many people came along on the day. We’re so grateful for the support that people have shown.
“The hard work of our PPG members and staff is really appreciated and I’d like to thank the local businesses which showed their support by donating raffle prizes.
“As well as being an opportunity for raising much-needed funds for dementia research the event was also a good opportunity for people to get signposting to the help and support services that exist in east Suffolk.”
